We were heading into Florida. We were going to visit some friends and, we didn't know it, but they were going to be taking us to a few places.
The Wakulla Springs was beautiful. Taking a boat ride on the lake just opened our eyes to more wildlife and serene beauty (except for the fact that there were alligators around). I loved seeing the manatee that swam under our boat. I've never seen one in the wild before.
The Wakulla Springs Lodge is available to guests. It was completed in 1937. There are 27 guest rooms available. There are no televisions in the guest rooms. This is to help you have a relaxing and quiet stay.
We ate at the Edward Ball Dining Room, located in the Wakulla Springs Lodge. Delicious food and a relaxing dining room.
After eating, we then went to the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge and lighthouse. This wildlife refuge area was established in 1931. It provides a winter habitat for migratory birds. We saw so much there. All of the birds were amazing to watch and we even got to see a few dolphins in the distance.
We did see the lighthouse while we were there, but we never went inside. It shows online that you can see the keeper's quarters, which are open on Fri., Sat., and Sun., from 11 am to 3 pm. Calling the Visitor Center is highly recommended to check the latest schedule. Phone number is 850-925-6121.
