We went to visit Punch, the baby monkey known as “the monkey with a stuffed animal mom,” at Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan!
Punch, a Japanese macaque who has captured hearts around the world, was born in July 2025 but was sadly rejected by his mother shortly after birth. He was then raised by zookeepers through hand-rearing and grew up clinging to a stuffed orangutan toy from IKEA—lovingly called “Oran Mama.”
In January 2026, Punch was reintroduced to the monkey troop. Since then, he has been doing his best every day to adjust, find comfort, and build connections with the group.
