Arrest Warrant Claims Activist Blocked Police From Doing Job

Описание: Cell phone video captured the moment Antonio Buehler was arrested by an Austin Police sergeant. "If you look at the video, he walked toward me, he came to me, he started talking to me, he said something silly, I think if you look at the video, the only criminals out last night was APD," said Buehler, following his release from jail. The questionable encounter took on East 6th Street early Sunday morning, following a fight that broke out in front of Burnsides Tavern. An arrest warrant claims officers had to move around members of Peaceful Streets which delayed their response time to help break up the disturbance. The officer, who wrote the report, said Buehler was blocking his path and had to be moved out of the way. "There were no problems on Friday. It just seems to be when Antonio comes down where they try and get ahead of you, get in your way, stick cameras in your face, very disrespectful behavior," said Austin Police Association President Ken Casaday. Buehler's attorney says that doesn't justify charging her client with interfering with public duties. "There's a difference between someone who is physically blocking you or physically preventing you from doing your job and someone who is standing where they have a First Amendment right to stand. The officers chose to be interfered with," said Millie Thompson. But the arrest affidavit claims Buehler kept getting closer and closer to the officers and that it was quickly becoming a hostile situation and safety issue. "He's an antagonist. He intentionally tries to get the officers to react and they reacted last night," added Casaday. Buehler is also charged with resisting arrest. "They can come up with anything they want. I wasn't trying to resist arrest, I was trying to give my camera to a friend because they have a history of keeping my camera for two years to prevent us from getting our video out," added Buehler.
