When performing a RDL, going lower is not always better. Once your hip hinge range of motion reaches its limit, you should stop descending. If you go beyond the range that your gluteus maximus and hamstrings can actively control, the excess movement will be compensated by your lower back (erector spinae), leading to unnecessary stress on the lumbar spine. This is a common reason why many people experience lower back pain during RDLs.
