A third of the world's entire food supply could be saved by reducing waste – that’s enough to feed 3 billion people! It is inescapable that achieving sustainability will require better food waste management. The world has already set ambitious goals to make this a reality: the 2030 Agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals, states that the globe should halve per capita food waste at the retail and consumer levels. (SDG 12.3). Granted, a 50% reduction in food waste is no easy feat. The good news is that it isn’t impossible either.
Food waste implementation mechanisms, success factors and main challenges discussed by Brazil, Colombia, the Netherlands and the United States of America. They are delving more into the activities necessary to achieve SDG 12.3 - "by 2030, halve per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses".
The webinar was featured on the 9th of April 2018 and included a presentation on the Sustainable Food Systems Programme’s core initiative aimed at providing technical and policy support to countries in their fight against food loss and waste.
