Walter is around 1 year old, and he’s one of those dogs who makes you root for him instantly. His early puppy months were spent in a small crate, and he came to us malnourished and unfamiliar with what good care even looks like.
But here’s the best part: Walter is finally learning how to be a dog, and watching him discover the world has been nothing short of amazing. Every day he gets a little stronger, a little braver, and a little more playful.
Walter loves to run, explore, and romp around, and he would thrive with:
✅ a patient adopter who will go at his pace
✅ a secure fenced yard (required) so he can safely play and build confidence
✅ ideally, another friendly dog to help show him the ropes
Walter doesn’t need perfection. He' s just looking for kindness, consistency, and a family to call his own. If you are looking for a loyal & sweet companion, why not stop by the AO and ask to meet Walter today?

Get to Know AO
Animal Orphanage (“AO”) is a Municipal Animal Shelter dedicated to providing shelter, food and medical care to stray and unwanted animals, until permanent homes can be found. We presently serve 29 municipalities in South Jersey. If your cat or dog gets lost in these areas, odds are they will be brought to the AO. We do not discriminate against any breed, nor do we turn an animal away due to medical conditions or age. Each and every animal in our shelter receives individual consideration and attention, regardless of the number of animals we may have in our care
We are also an Adoption Center. That means when space allows, we are able to rescue cats & dogs from over-crowded, high-kill shelters and rescues. We work with local shelters such as Burlington County Animal Shelter and Philly ACCT. We’ve worked with shelters in Northern NJ have many rescue partners.
The numbers are in for 2025! 2,535 lives saved (up from 2,360 in 2024)
93.03% live release rate (up from 92.8% in 2024, "no-kill" status exceeds 90%)
Thank you to all of the staff, volunteers, donors, and supporters who helped save so many lives in 2025!
