I love this solo as you can hear both dynamic playing and detail phrasing. My favourite like is cool bluesy and jazzy lick at 0:19, which is based on minor pentatonic with 9th. I hope this video would give you some idea.
I really love how John use slide to make it melodic at 0:14. Here you can hear John Mayer's idea the idea of making solo more melodic by slide and bending
