This is why Wyclef Jean is the sexiest rapper alive and what you can learn from it as a musician.
Instead of going to his hotel after his show in Columbus at the Summit of Greatness with Lewis Howes, Wyclef decides to trade lines with two respected poets in the house.
Let me explain.
First of all, let's assume Wyclef gets paid a lot to give a concert.
He plays guitar, sings, raps, dances, takes his shirt off, stage dives, and people go crazy.
It's an amazing show that he's done a billion times. He flies in, does his thing, and gets paid.
But then, backstage after the show, there are 8 of us, including two respected poets.
Instead of heading to the hotel, he trades poetry bars for 15 minutes.
Beyond the fame, money, and hits
He's still hungry for the art.
He's still digging.
Vulnerable.
He never forgot who he is, where he came from, and what the dream has always been about.
That's why he's so damn sexy, and
That's the possibility available to you.
All you have to do is choose it.
I understand:
you have bills, responsibilities, and maybe kids.
things aren't the same as when you were 19.
You can't just drop everything and practice 6 hours a day.
I'm not disputing any of this.
Wyclef is in his 50's. He doesn't have time to write for hours a day either.
But he hasn't given up. He takes every opportunity to keep growing.
You can too.
Ask yourself the question, "Am I done?"
And then decide either way. I mean be honest with yourself.
The only one listening is you. No one is telling you which decision to make.
And if you do decide you're NOT done, it may only require an hour or two per week for you to keep growing.
It's about what you do with that hour or two per week.
If you rehash stuff you've done before you might maintain some level of technique, but that's not the same thing as growing.
But if you decide to push yourself a little bit out of your comfort zone 1-2 hrs a week in your practice...
to deepen your knowledge and sharpen the axe that is your artistry,
you'll find that the commitment to that type of process will give you back 100 times over.
It's the kind of thing that creates unshakeable confidence in who you are.
Wyclef doesn't have the most extensive vocabulary, fastest tempos, or most surprising syncopation.
His confidence in himself is unshakeable, and he continues to dig for it.
It's the same for you. If you decide to keep going as a musician, you can create that same confidence and presence.
You just need to decide.
Повторяем попытку...
