A panel discussion with Equity, the Musician's Union and Prof Paul Whitty.
Behind the glamour of the creative industries lies a complex landscape of work, rights and representation. This panel brings together voices from two major unions, Charlotte Bence (Industry Official) of Equity, and Natalie Witts-Kilshaw (Live, Theatre & Music Writers Official - Theatre) of the Musicians’ Union. They will explore the realities of creative labour today, from pay equity and working conditions to collective organising and the fight for fair treatment across the arts. They are in conversation with Professor Paul Whitty, Professor of Music and Head of the School of Arts at Oxford Brookes University. Paul is an experimental composer, co-director of the Sonic Art Research Unit, and a leading figure in music-industry research and creative practice. Together, the panel discusses how unions and advocacy groups are reshaping the politics of creative work, and what needs to change to build a more sustainable and inclusive creative economy.
This event was part of the 6th International Creative Industries Festival organised by the Creative Industries Research and Innovation Network at Oxford Brookes University.
