Philadelphia International Airport - March 8, 2024

Описание: This video, shot between 8:45 am and 11:45 am on a chilly and breezy Friday morning in March before we spring forward, encompasses about 85% of the traffic taking off from Philadelphia International Airport's Runway 9L. With winds out of the northeast and beautiful blue skies (two rarities together, heck even the blue skies part is rare with all the rain we've had!) and a new video camera purchased, the entire rig needed to be tested out before taking it on the road to an airshow. This may mean at least two more airline-related long-form videos like this one. Meanwhile, ‪@AmericanAirlines‬ had two special paints come through that morning.

It's also incredible how little traffic from ‪@jetblue‬ and ‪@SouthwestAir‬ there is coming thru PHL these days. JetBlue used to have four to seven BOS-PHL flights and one FLL-PHL flight; now there's only a few BOS-PHL flights. Southwest still has a smaller operation than they did ten years ago. UPS' operations are still sizable and I was expecting to see two 747-8Fs but only got one - the other 747-8F flight was an MD-11, which both FedEx and UPS are drawing down and slowly retiring.

It should also be noted that ‪@WhiteHouse‬ ‪@JoeBiden‬ had a campaign stop outside of #philadelphia scheduled for March 8. Biden would have flown into PHL on Air Force One but that wasn't until later in the day and I was not going to stick around for that, especially after his angry #stateoftheunion address the night before.

You'll hear a lot of beeps in this video. Those of you who have owned Apple products will realize that an Apple device is also recording video. I've built a contraption where an iPod Touch would also be recording video simultaneously - though not everything I filmed made it to the iPod - and those videos, while they need to be cropped, will be uploaded to YouTube Shorts. Today's PHL visit might yield about 15 or more Shorts. If you're curious why I'm using an iPod Touch rather than an iPhone, it has to do with cost and weight. An iPod Touch weighs around 3.1 ounces where many of the more recent iPhones are more than 6.5 ounces. Believe me, it adds up and gets heavy!
