So, there was a period of time when I decided that my computer was distracting me from work. However, without music to combat the distractions of bird chirping outside alongside the noises of society in general, it would be difficult to concentrate.
Having a calm and non-distracting playlist is designed to drown out any environmental noise, and also, being away from a computer is a good thing.
A quick code write warranted the use of a GUI, because initially, the Raspberry PI was playing music 100% headless - no volume control, music cannot be skipped, e.t.c...
So, a websockets-based solution involving tornado, audio file parsing modules, and raw socket access was developed and it evolved into this.
Note the high latency. This is because at the time of the recording, the computer was off 100% ("apparently") - the Raspberry PI was being powered off a Micro-USB port that doesn't even have any power.
Having more power (ie, the computer being turned on) would make any delay virtually unperceivable.
Also - note the green flashing lights on the PI's wifi adapter ;)
