In this video, I show the real-world value of using static pressure probes to diagnose a clogged secondary heat exchanger—without the extra work of pulling out the blower motor assembly.
During a recent service call, I placed my Fieldpiece Job Link static pressure probes on the return ductwork and near the high limit switch area. The results revealed a significant static pressure of ~0.7 in. w.c. between these two points.
⚙️ Why this matters:
1. In heat mode, a high static pressure reading indicates restricted airflow, which can cause the furnace to overheat, trip the high limit switch, and reduce system efficiency.
2. In cooling mode, restricted airflow across the evaporator coil leads to poor comfort, longer run times, and potential icing of the coil.
By documenting static pressure this way, you can visually show customers hard data, build trust, and avoid unnecessary disassembly just to confirm what you already know.
📈 Pro Tip for Technicians:
Invest in a Fieldpiece Job Link Kit with static pressure probes. These tools allow you to record and present accurate readings directly to homeowners—making your troubleshooting more efficient and your recommendations more credible.
