Maqui shares her lifelong fascination with rainbows, using them as a symbol of the visible spectrum of light and a gateway to understanding the world in color. She reflects on her journey through science and art, highlighting how both disciplines shaped her unique way of learning and viewing the world.
She emphasizes the need for integrated, experiential learning that bridges science, art, and emotion, particularly to inspire more women and children to pursue science. Diagnosed as neurodivergent at 37, Maqui embraces her condition as a strength, likening neurodivergence to a rainbow—a spectrum of diverse and valuable traits.
Her call to action: embrace complexity, curiosity, and new perspectives to build a better, more inclusive world.
Chilean scientist-artist based in Frutillar. Since she was a child she has been interested in science and the arts to understand the world. She trained as a graduate in applied physics and a physical engineer, always amazed by the phenomena of the Earth and the universe. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
