A callus forms when there is greater pressure placed on the skin. It is called a pinch callus when the skin is pinched and there is a greater pressure at the top of the ridge of the pinched skin than the surrounding skin.
The callus forms in this area in a very unique pattern called a tyloma or pinch callus.

Treatment for a pinch callus is usually removal of the thickened hardened section, the application of moisturizer and then avoiding anything that can cause pressure in this area.

The usual causes of a pinch callus are, over-pronation, tight footwear, bunions and clawing of the toes.

Long-term treatment is aimed at reducing the formation of the pinch callus by using an orthotic insole to control over-pronation or abnormal foot mechanics, addressing footwear issues, regular podiatry treatment to remove the callus and regular application of moisturizer.
