A total of 50 to 75 of these electric vehicles were produced (different data from different sources) between 1979 and 1982. Officially, the brainchild of Unique Mobility was called the Electrek Uncar. The body was made of fibreglass and polycarbonate and had an enclosed battery tunnel through the middle of the car. An electric engine was also below.
Electrek was equipped with 16 6V lead-acid batteries that supplied power for a 32-horsepower GM or GE electric engine (we are not really sure) through the Soleq controller. The car had a regenerative braking system, a 4-speed transmission, and the ability to charge from a standard 110-volt household socket.
The maximum speed of Electrek Unicar reached 120 kilometres per hour, and the acceleration time from standstill to 48 kilometres per hour took nine seconds. The power reserve at a speed of 48 kilometres per hour was 160 kilometres.
But the price was bank-breaking: in 1979, its selling price was $ 25,000, which equals to $ 89,000 in 2020, or almost 7 million roubles. Of course, this price scared off the buyers, as well as middling driving performance. The car manufacturer is known today as UQM Technologies. The
