A 21-year-old woman from West London who claimed to have been the victim of a robbery in which £67,000 was stolen from the currency exchange shop she worked at was rumbled as being in on the heist. Surrey Police detectives saw through Shaaera Begum's lies when they noticed inconsistencies in her story following a robbery at Eurochange in Staines, Surrey, on April 17 this year.
That morning police received a call from a woman in distress who said the store she worked in, Eurochange in Elmsleigh Shopping Centre, had just been robbed. Begum said she had arrived at the store at 8.30am for her shift, when a man wearing a balaclava pushed his way in.
She claimed he had sl*pped her, thre*tened her with scissors and forced her to empty the safe, before tying her hands together with Sellotape. The man then fled the store with £67,000 in cash.
