Sentencing for Alicia Andrews was has been delayed! In this video, I dive into the trial court and court of appeals docket to explain why the sentencing hearing is stayed, what a “writ of prohibition” is used for, and how the defense is trying to get Judge Sisco off the case after she denied their motion to disqualify her.
Note: This is different than an appeal of the conviction - Rather, the defense is petitioning the 2nd District Court of Appeal to issue a writ of prohibition barring Judge Michelle Sisco from further presiding over the case.

A petition for writ of prohibition is a request asking an appellate court to stop a lower court judge from acting in a case because they’re alleged to lack the jurisdiction (an authority or neutrality issue) required to continue. This type of petition can be used to ask a higher court to address a motion to disqualify that has been denied by the trial judge.
