Your Brain Wasn’t Designed for This World: When Environment Outpaces Evolution

Описание: Modern humans are navigating a world that has changed faster than our brains can evolve. . The human brain and nervous system developed in simple environments like savannas amd plains—not to process algorithmic feeds, hyper-complex social systems, or planetary-scale information flows. The period that we call "civilization" represents only around 4% of human history--over 95% of human evolution occurred prior to this.

Human perception depends on aggressive filtering mechanisms—sensory gating, predictive priors, and attentional suppression—that determine what is allowed into conscious awareness. These systems work remarkably well… until the environment changes faster than the brain can update its models.

In this stream, I argue that many of today’s conflicts, distortions, and breakdowns in shared truth are not moral or ideological failures, but perceptual ones—the result of outdated cognitive hardware struggling to interpret a radically accelerated world.

I explore how psychedelics disrupt these filtering systems, temporarily loosening the brain’s grip on its own assumptions and allowing access to non-ordinary modes of cognition that may reveal aspects of reality normally filtered out.

Our brains are ~97% adapted to pre-civilizational conditions

Nearly 100% adapted to pre-digital conditions

And 0% evolved for algorithmically mediated reality

Natural selection simply has not had time to adapt to:

mass media

abstract institutions

constant information saturation
