Описание: Watch our virtual learning session with Sarah Flack on grazing management guidelines for improving pasture quality and productivity. Hosted by New Brunswick Soil and Crop Improvement Association Inc. (NBSCIA), in partnership with Canadian Organic Growers (COG).

How do perennial pasture plants grow both above and below ground, and how do our grazing management decisions create more productive and higher quality forages?

In this session, Sarah Flack will explores these questions, sharing her wealth of knowledge on grazing management guidelines based on plant physiology and soil health. Reviewing methods to maximize pasture intake by the herd or flock while using the livestock as the primary tool for improving plant and soil health. In addition to discussing many of the other “grazing tools” producers can use to improve pastures, including different stocking rates, stock densities, trampling, variable regrowth periods, post-grazing residual, variable pre-grazing heights, soil amendments, seed, and more.

Speaker Bio:
Sarah Flack is an author and consultant specializing in providing practical information on agronomy and farm business planning to grass-based livestock farmers, organizations, institutions, and individuals. She grew up on a Vermont family farm that used management-intensive grazing and mob stocking. She later studied Holistic Planned Grazing and pursued graduate studies on pasture management at the University of Vermont. She has written extensively about grass farming, has participated in several research projects, and is known for teaching workshops that take a practical approach to applying the science of grazing. Sarah has successfully helped many farmers create positive change in their pastures, soils, livestock, finances, and farm-family quality of life.

Best Management Practices: A Virtual Learning Series
This session was part of the Best Management Practices Virtual Learning Series. The New Brunswick Soil and Crop Improvement Association, in partnership with Canadian Organic Growers (COG), hosted a five-part virtual learning series designed to support New Brunswick producers in exploring On-Farm Best Management Practices (BMPs) that improve soil health, productivity, and climate resilience.

The series focused on key BMPs supported through the On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF), with an emphasis on cover cropping and rotational grazing systems. Through interactive virtual sessions, producers will have the opportunity to learn from a variety of subject matter experts, deepen their understanding of how these practices function on the ground, and explore how BMPs can be adapted to their own farm contexts.
