Side-lying Trunk Hip Lift
Keys to this activity:
1. Ensure "sagittal plane" is not overly biased towards traditional spinal extension (or excessive flexion). This means that your back should not be arched. If you feel this in your back, it likely is.
2. Position the arm under the shoulder enough towards the hip to avoid excessive strain on the arm
3. Keep body turned slightly towards the ground
4. Ensure head stays in line with body (not in front).
Some reasons to include this activity:
1. Improve dynamic of the thorax through alternating lateral compression and expansion
2. Expand the thorax anterior to posterior. Because compression in happening on the left and right sides, the thorax will be biased towards anterior posterior expansion throughout (under "normal" circumstances)
