One of a series of videos to help you avoid requisitions with HM Land Registry.

Video transcript:
In 2008 we introduced a requirement for certain applications to be accompanied by identity confirmation. This was to help protect against fraud.
Although we have changed our ID forms a number of times since then, the basic requirements have not changed.
3% of requisition raised relate to ID evidence.
We have to reject applications that are lodged without confirmation of identity when this is required.
We only raise requisitions when customers have lodged incomplete evidence; or where we can’t reject the application at the time of lodgement but we still require confirmation. This is in relation to attorneys and where a person has changed their name. You can evidence this by deed poll, a statement of truth or statutory declaration.
You can find guidance and the ID forms on GOV.UK - look in particular for Practice Guide 67 – evidence of identity – conveyancers.
It seems some customers do not understand the requirement of ID for attorneys.
Enclosing a copy of power with an application is not sufficient by itself. We also require confirmation of identity to be provided for the attorney.
HM Land Registry is a government department created in 1862 to register the ownership of land and property in England and Wales.
Our ambition is to become the world’s leading land registry for speed, simplicity and an open approach to data.
