Extremely Good Times! In my mid 30's and 40's, this trail was a mainstay for me... I loved to ride it on mtb and it was my favorite tech-fest climb. I called it the "toll booth" to get access to other awesome trails. It was a painful benchmark of fitness to climb and an absolute joy to descend.
Sad to say as I've aged and lost the desire for its mtb punishment, the snowflakes and millenials have since back-filled the spirit of the many other mtb'ers that enjoyed riding this trail. It appears that the hikers have taken control of the trail's characteristics and are gradually, unnecessarily turning it into a rock staircase. This transition is subtle, but inappropriate. This trail is entirely sustainable for a multitude of users. The trend appears to be to let it erode, avoid maintenance, and install un-rideable features as a means to discourage mountain bikers from visiting. Ironically the stair structures lead to greater erosion of the trail. Regardless of the ignorance of others, thank god for giving me my secret eWeapon to continue my visits with my climbing joy meter pegged to its limit!
