New Mandelson files reveal handwritten note from Mandelson to the government

In a handwritten note, released on Monday, Mandelson went on to say that it would be a "huge honour" to serve as ambassador to the US.

The note was part of the second tranche of files released by the government after Parliament forced it to release all the documents it had on Mandelson's appointment as US ambassador.

The files also show that Mandelson “declined to comply” with a request to hand over his personal phone and allow the government to publish WhatsApp messages ahead of his appointment.

The documents feature numerous messages between Mandelson and several ministers, including Keir Starmer.
