At the start of May, I tested for my 4th Degree black belt without arms. I started Taekwondo when I was 11 and trained periodically until I met my husband in 2010. Since then, I've earned the Arizona State Champ title and done demonstrations in front of thousands of people.
The American Taekwondo Association (ATA Martial Arts) has supported my adaptive training. My forms have substitutions for hand techniques. Instead of a punch, I do a knee strike. Thankfully, Taekwondo emphasizes kicks and a lot of them! The entire armless substitution system is available for any upper bilateral amputee student to use in their local ATA school.
As of upload, I have not received the final results of my test.
