This video showcases test footage captured with the Zeiss Jena DDR Flektogon 35mm f/2.4 MC in its rehoused version. The test explores the lens’s optical characteristics, including sharpness, contrast, color rendering, and bokeh.
I just finished assembling this rehousing for a Zeiss Flektogon 35mm—an absolutely remarkable lens—designed by Max Rovensky from Budapest. His work is outstanding, and it’s amazing that he shares his projects freely with everyone!
Initially, I wanted to make this project in aluminum, so I reached out to Max (who was super kind and helpful) to request the .step files necessary for CNC machining. However, after receiving several quotes—both in Italy and abroad—all of which exceeded €2000, I realized it was beyond my budget.
At that point, I decided to follow Max's original idea of 3D printing the parts in PLA, and it turned out to be the best decision. Printing at home gave me the flexibility to refine and adapt the original design. For example, I noticed that when focusing very close, there was a small 8mm gap between the focus ring and the front section. Thanks to 3D printing, I was able to adjust the design to fix this and also added two extra screw holes to improve the lens’s attachment.
As Max also suggested, I decided to create stickers with a background for the markers. For now, I’ve printed them on paper to test the positioning and layout before finalizing them. Alternatively, I’ve considered engraving the markers directly onto the barrel using a laser, but currently, the Laserpecker is too expensive, and I don’t know anyone who owns one.
Additionally, I added a 3D-printed front cap, which I completed with the label Max kindly provided.
💰 The result? I managed to keep the total cost (lens included!) under €100!
⚙ What’s next? Continuing to integrate new technologies like 3D printing into my work and finding creative, budget-friendly solutions.
