When you build your life without someone,
needing them later becomes the one thing you refuse to do.
And in The Apothecary Diaries, that refusal sits at the center of Maomao’s relationship with her father. He’s eccentric. Cunning. And late. A man perfectly suited for military strategy and utterly unfit for fatherhood.
So instead of being present, he tests her. Three trials, disguised as puzzles, meant to measure the woman she became without him.

I didn’t think I would like AD as much as I did, but the personal dynamics between the characters ended up carrying the entire experience for me. Great series.
