Hello everyone, my name is Ella and three years ago (yeah this vlog comes a bit delayed) I volunteered in the slums of Faridabad, New Delhi, India with PMGY. This time changed my perspective on many things: what actually matters in life generally, what matters to me personally and how the world looks for some kids that grow up having nothing.
What you should know when trying to find a suitable volunteer project:
use a website that has been proven serious and trustworthy: www.volunteerworld.com is what I used to find PMGY, but most projects are profit driven
be careful with projects that include animal care and childcare.
For me volunteering with this organisation was a good move as it allowed me to travel solo to Asia for the first time but never feel alone. I was picked up from the airport and dropped off and had great guidance by the local team. Especially the projects I did in India and Nepal were a once in a lifetime experience - I felt and saw the impact I had and how I could actually bring some joy to the community.
I want to say that I did the camel safari in Pushkar out of curiosity but regretted doing it as soon as it started. 1 person already is heavy for one camel and 2 of them on one is too much. The animals were exhausted and living under poor conditions. Please overthink supporting animal tourism - anything related with touching wild animals is not animal friendly and should not be supported. Thank you.
I hope you enjoyed this little documentary - make sure to subscribe to not miss out on more videos of this kind.
Love, Ella
