This is 1¼ miles east of Hammerton station with Marston Moor LC further eastwards. The line here is single track and the gates are kept closed. There is no public right of way over the crossing or over the lane behind which leads to farms. Only named residents, friends and people like the postman can use it. I'm very grateful to the helpful crossing keeper for letting me over. There was a siding here and, from 1865, Wilstrop Siding railway station which closed to passengers in 1931. Trains only ever stopped here in daylight so the station was unlit. A train each way stopped here one day a week to allow railway staff to get to the shops. There is a Signalling Record Society 2015 video demonstrating how this crossing works: https://www.s-r-s.org.uk/videoPages/W... At that time the crossing keeper still lived at the house.
