#IndegeniousArt and Engineering are daily disappearing from the world. I have obserbed disapearence of #TraditionalArt and architecture specially from the life of himalayan indegenious people. Among them Lepchas Nepali art, engineering and architecture of Sikkim and the Greater Himalayas are no exception. Though less in numbers they represent a world unique civilisation in terms of their knowledge of biodiversity, art of living at the lap of mighty himalayas along with its difficulties and life at the adge, construction of earthquack proof houses, even land slide proof housing technology which amazed world people. Here are thousands of such hidden boon to civilisation if conserved and promoted in modern sense the old one. With the emergence and penetration of modern mainstream architecture in place of traditional indegenious one it has swepping effects in old one. Though I do not propound the static and strict conservation of old one but in some cases if the value laden in traditional culture and practices if it could be assimilate with modern one the carryforward of uniqueness would be possible where thousand flowere can be blossomed in single garden. I have seen the reflection of old engeneering and architecture in modern construction in europe also . Though they are the new buildings with all new infrasturcture the asthetic aspect of old art is still reflectef in modern one retaining the uniqueness of old civilisation and their heritage. Art and architecture of himalayan indegenious people being very young and emerging in comparision to the cultural civilisation of mainstream. With the sudden change in global economy, the policy of liberalisation Privatisation and globalisation, the budding civilization and its cultural get smashed and hit hard at its root by modern one. The result is the loss of uniqueness of each culture and civilisation which could be considered as common wealth of the civilisation. Even in Bhutan architecture I have seen the retention of old art in modern engineering to some extent. But in Nepal and in Sikkim gross disapearence of its old culture and uniqueness is seen. The direction is towards complete disapereance of cultural identity. So its time to join hand all interested conservation activist interested in saving the himalayan civilisation , its growth and development with its own identity and uniqueness in modern world.
This is more than 100 years old #NepaliTraditionalHome in dilapated conditions destroyed by september 18, 2011 himalayan earthquack in Sikkim epicentre at Kanchenjunga Conservation area North Sikkim. This Antique giant traditional Nepali home was built during the regime of Chogyal the King of the then Himalayan State of Sikkim. It is Said that this tradition building had 54 doors in total. latter on some of its door were dismantel due to the law and order condition of himalayan state since construction of 54 doors home was the priviledge of King only and not permited for the then subjects.
Though this house in dilapated conditions represent the uniqe and fine nepali arts in its door windows and piller. I have seen no of old vintage of rare kind inside it.
It is the typical representatves of himalayan lifestyle, art and architecture.
