Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke to reporters on the recent U.S. and Israeli strike on Iran, allegations of foreign interference from India, and the newly formed trade agreements with India and Australia as part of his 10-day trip across Asia and the Indo-pacific.
“We support efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent its regime from further threatening international peace and security,” Carney said, “We do, however, take this position with regret because the current conflict is another example of the failure of the international order.” He added.
Carney also outlined a new strategic partnership in energy, talent, innovation and artificial intelligence with India. The deal involves over $5 billion in commercial agreements, a $2.6 billion uranium supply agreement between Saskatchewan-based Cameco and the Indian government, and an innovation strategy backed by 13 educational partnerships between Canada’s leading universities.
