"Japanese Maple(Japanese:紅葉,lit:momiji)" is a Japanese nursery rhyme and a song for school children written by a Japanese lyrics, Tatsuyuki Takano(髙野辰之), and composed by Teiichi Okano(岡野貞一). In 1911 (Meiji 44) it was published on "Jinjo Elementary School Song (2)".
Tatsuyuki Takano is said to have written this lyrics when he was attracted to the beauty of the autumn leaves seen from Kumanotaira Station on the Shin-Etsu Main Line (currently abandoned) at Usui Mountain Pass.
Teiichi Okano was a Christian composer , an organist, a professor of music school, and a member of composition committee of Mynistry of Education. He composed more than 160 school songs and more than 10 folk songs.
