After three days of discussions with Iran, there was good news. Iran would permit Indian ships to pass through Hormuz. The first of two ships owned by the Shipping Corporation of India was cleared for travel across the Strait of Hormuz. According to sources, Iran permitted Indian ships safe passage, provided India talked about the unfair attack of Israel and US in Iran, at the next BRICS summit. Iran is also a BRICS member. More details from the negotiations are likely to be known soon.

Possible to circumvent, the US Supreme court declaring blanket tariffs illegal without Congress approval. The present govt has decided to selectively target increases against countries based on selective investigation. The idea is to reimpose tariffs on some countries. As a result, the US India trade deal has been differed till further notice. US wants money badly, even the present wars are bleeding it. Tariffs appear to be an easy way to mitigate this pain.

In an attempt to permit FDI from China, India finally modifies its “Press note 3”. This rule passed in 2020 to block Chinese investments in India stated that all border country investments were prohibited, or at best restricted. With unemployment soaring and no FDI coming in from the West, Indi needs FDI desperately. It needs to create more jobs. Hence, it has to look at China which has investable funds. This is another incident of India resorting to bans and reconsidering them later.
