In this video, I take you through the streets of Aleppo, Syria, one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities. Known as the “Pearl of the Middle East,” Aleppo has a history stretching back thousands of years — from ancient Silk Road trade routes to Ottoman rule, and sadly, to being one of the most heavily damaged cities during the Syrian civil war.
As I explore the narrow lanes, old markets, and ruins, you’ll see how Aleppo today is a mixture of resilience and scars. The city has lost much of its architectural heritage, but life continues — children play, shopkeepers sell, and locals are slowly rebuilding their lives.
But then something truly unexpected happened: in the middle of Aleppo, I met a Syrian man who was deeply curious about Indira Gandhi, India’s former Prime Minister. For over a minute, he kept asking me about her life, her leadership, and her role in India’s history. This random but warm encounter reminded me of how far India’s global connections reach — even here in Syria, thousands of kilometers away, people still remember her.
In this vlog, you will see:
A raw look at Aleppo’s streets and daily life today
Glimpses of historic ruins and markets that once made Aleppo famous
A local perspective on how Syrians live after years of war
A surprising Indira Gandhi connection in Syria 🇮🇳🇸🇾
My personal experience traveling through a city that carries both beauty and tragedy
Traveling through Syria is not just about war ruins — it’s about meeting people, hearing stories, and realizing how cultures connect in unexpected ways. This journey through Aleppo opened my eyes to how history, politics, and daily life are still very much alive in the minds of its people.
