When James Scott was 20 years old, he went to St. Louis, Missouri to find his idol, Scott Joplin. He found him and asked if he would listen to one of his ragtime compositions. Joplin was so impressed that he introduced him to his own publisher, John Stillwell Stark, and recommended that he publish the work. It quickly became a hit and Scott became a regular contributor to the Stark catalogue until 1922.
This is one of my favorite compositions by James Scott. I have decided to play it at a slower tempo than many choose to because I think it sounds more elegant this way and I am trying to learn how to play songs with more feeling.
