The DS "Donau" was an german cargoship, used by the german Kriegsmarine during the second world war. The ship is knowned for the largest deportation of norwegian judes, during the second world war. The 26. of november 1942, 532 norwegian judes was arrested and deported by the Donau to the concentration camp in Auschwitz. By the 532 deported, only 9 went back to Norway alive.
A cold day in januar 2022 in some really clear water, we went down to see what is still preserved of the DS "Donau". You will see some cars, trucks and what is probably some fueltanks.
The DS "Donau" was sunk on this spot the 16. of januar 1945, by the norwegian saboteurs, Roy Nilsen and Max Manus.
