Canadian National in the Rainy River District

Описание: The last frontier for Ontario. "Southwestern Ontario"... Southwestern Northern Ontario.... Ontario is a huge province and a critical piece of CN's Chicago to Winnipeg corridor slices thru a small piece of it operating on a neat peace of mainline trackage. At Fort Frances the busy Rainy Sub in Minnesota connects with the Fort Frances Sub from Atikokan and Thunder Bay running to Rainy River. Here the Sprague Sub starts at the old station in town before continuing to CN's Symington Yard in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This piece of track that comes out of Minnesota, operates across a small 50 mile stretch of Ontario and then reenters the United States at Baudette for a 45 mile stretch before heading back into Canada in Middlebro, Manitoba. That's just the tip of this interesting piece of mainline north american railroading. The traffic here is heavy on most days with bulk trains! Aside from plenty of intermodal and manifest trains this is the heart of Canada's western cross border trade! Fertilizers, Fracsand from the midwest head west. Crude Oil, Grain, Potash, and Oil flow South. The Trans Canada Highway , Highway 11 provides excellent routes to intercept the many crossings and communities in this region. East of Fort Frances along Rainy Lake is in the heart of the Canadian Shield while west you feel lost in the Prairie.

CN's busy Winnipeg to Chicago/Thunder Bay corridor between Thunder Bay, Ontario and Rainy River, Ontario on the Kashabowie, Fort Frances, and Sprague Subs. I join up with CN's line from Chicago at Fort Frances and spend the day and a few hours the following morning checking things out with ‪@CP5499‬ catching a variety of trains.
