TERRY MASON SENT OVER THIS INFO ON THE REFURBISHMENT-

By the end of 2016 the VC10 model had been in it’s RAF tanker configuration for 4 years. At that point it had completed 76 fights including early test fights. A decision was made to ‘refresh’ the model by repainting it in civil BOAC colours.

In October 2017 the task of rubbing down the existing paint began, filling where necessary and rubbing down again (and again !). All of this, including re applying primer, was carried out outdoors
when weather allowed. A local car body shop agreed to do the final colour scheme at a reasonable price so further research on the BOAC colours was carried out in stages in December 2017.

It caused some interest at the paint shop and at various other firms on the trading estate that got to hear about it !
A friend who had done the vinyl decals for the military paint scheme kindly agreed to do the new ones including the beautiful gold speed bird for the fin. Once applied the model really came to life and all the long hours of rubbing down and filling had paid off.
A lot of other work was done in parallel. General inspection and maintenance including control linkage upgrades,

an improved landing gear sequencer and a better gyro for directional control, a beefed up tailplane mounting, additional fuel tankage, improved lights etc.
All turbines were returned to Wren for servicing and conversion to internal kero starting – we are very appreciative of the support that Wren continue to give us.

TERRY USES ALL FUTABA RADIO WITH FOUR RECEIVERS PROVIDING CONTROL REDUNDANCY,
SHE FIRST FLEW ON 25th JULY 2012 AT WOODFORD AIRFIELD,

Own plans and constructed by myself over 5yrs from polystyrene, glass composite, with carbon fibre spars. All undercarriage, thrust reversers, and scale fowler flaps again my own design and construction, with the thrust reversers being added 3 yrs ago after a lengthy development. Paint work by me using 2 pack non iso car paint.

The model has a total of 41 servos, 6 futaba rx's, and 8 batteries, three of which are 6v, 7ah pb, and the rest 6v 2000mh eneloops.
Controlled by 2 tx's the primary pilots tx controls just the aileron, elevator, rudder, and throttle, with the other person operating u/c, flaps, spoilers, and thrust reversers. Rate gyros fitted to the ailerons and eagle tree telemetry to give airspeed reading normally monitored by a 3rd person and given to the pilot on request.

Powered by two PST 1300R turbines, fuel capacity 10ltrs of kerosene, with normally about 6ltrs used in a 10 min flight. First flew in 2015 and is capable of maintaining height and control on one engine.
