The number one priority of parents is to get their children to heaven period!

I once hear a mom say that they desired their children to be good productive members of society, and if their child became this, they had done their job.

As a Catholic parent, this is not my number one priority. My number one prior as a parent is to get my children to heaven. PERIOD! What good is raising ultra-high performance children, who are plugged in to every conceivable extra-curra activity so they “don’t miss out”, but they loose their eternal soul. Talk about missing out! Heaven should be our priority for our children, because that’s God’s priority as well.

The duty of parents is to raise their children in the ways of God.

We can not raise children simple to contribute to society. We can not encourage our children to add to what John Pall II called a “culture of death”. We are to raise are world changers. Whose focus is holiness, and the holiness of others. Who developed their gifts and talents not to help themselves but help build the Kingdom of God.

It’s not good intentions that produce world changers. It’s not a morality defined by the majority that produces Kingdom builders.

JP II said, “Holy people, and holy people alone can renew humanity.” Hear that..Holy people!

Catholic parents, are to raise saints. The best place to start is to ask the question, is what is coming out my mouth, and how I treating my spouse, is it a reflection of Christ.

If we want our children kind, we must show kindness. If we want them patience we must show restraint. If we want them prayerful, they must see us praying. If we want to them to know Jesus, we must tell them of our encounters with Him, and teach them His ways.

What kind of child do you want. One that conforms to the world or to Christ. One that goes with the flow, or goes with God. Nature tells us, dead fish always float down stream. Growing in Christ is always an uphill battle.

A parents decided what the primary influence is in their child’s life. If they sit back passively, it will be the world and friends. If they take an active role, it will be them. In either, case there will be a fight.

If you are parent, or will be one soon, God is calling you to raise world changers.
