Описание: Mike Barrett is Professor of Parasitology at the University of Glasgow. He began a career in research into parasitic protozoa including trypanosomes, Leishmania and Plasmodium at the University of Cambridge in 1986. After periods in France and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine he moved to Glasgow in 1996 where he has continued to look at the biochemical workings of parasites with a view to designing new drugs for use in parasite control. Mike was Chairman of the drug resistance working group of the WHO coordinated human African trypanosomiasis network until 2005 and is currently an Associate Director of the Consortium of Parasitic Drug Development, a group centred at the University of North Carolina who took pafuramidine into phase III trials against early stage human African trypanosomiasis and are currently investigating a range of new compounds for use against human African trypanosomiasis and Leishmaniasis.
