Health Minister Greg Hunt has been admitted to hospital where he is being treated for an infection with IV fluids and antibiotics.
The federal minister’s office revealed while he received the AstraZeneca vaccine at the weekend, his illness was unrelated to the jab.
Mr Hunt is expected to make a full recovery, however, he will be on medical leave for the next few days – leaving the Morrison government now with three senior ministers on leave.
Meanwhile, Victoria Deputy Premier James Merlino will step into the role of acting premier as Daniel Andrews is expected to remain in ICU for the next few days after sustaining multiple broken ribs and damage to his vertebrae in a fall.
The premier was preparing to leave a holiday rental on the Mornington Peninsula – where he was staying with his family at the long weekend – when he fell down some wet and slippery stairs.
He was taken to the Peninsula Private Hospital via ambulance for assessment and last night moved to the trauma centre at The Alfred trauma centre in Melbourne.
It remains unclear whether Mr Andrews will have recovered and be able to return to work when Victorian parliament resumes sitting next Tuesday.
