Grand assemblé en tournant (big turning assemblé, sometimes called a double assemblé) is a men’s step. From a running start, the dancer brushes one leg into the air, assembles both feet, and does 1-1/2 or two turns in the air with two spots of the head, landing on both feet in fifth position.
A double jeté entrelacé (ahn-truh-la-SAY, Russian School term) is similar to a double assemblé, but the dancer lands on one foot, going to a lunge or to the knee. The step, spectacular when performed well, is also similar to a jeté entrelacé (jump off one leg, half turn, land on the other leg in arabseque-also called grand jeté dessus en tournant) but with an additional turn with the dancer in a slanted position relative to the ground. The step is also called a double rivoltade.
Leonid Sarafanov and Mikhail Baryshnikov perform the step in the Grand Pas de Deux from Don Quixote. Note their substantial slanted position in the air before they split their legs to land in a lunge.
