At Texas State University’s Wittliff Collections, a new exhibition called The Selena Effect explores why Selena Quintanilla-Pérez continues to inspire generations who were born after her rise to fame. Through fashion, photography, and contemporary art, the exhibit looks at Selena not as a memory, but as a living cultural force.
Curated by Hector Saldaña, the exhibition features never-before-seen fashion sketches, personal items from her longtime designer Martín Gómez, and intimate photographs that reveal Selena beyond the stage. Together, they tell the story of an artist whose influence stretches far beyond Tejano music.
This story is part of Turning Back Time (#tbt), CBS Austin’s award-winning series exploring Central Texas history and its lasting impact on the community.
The Selena Effect runs through 2026 at The Wittliff Collections at Texas State University in San Marcos. Admission is free.
