STORYLINE:
Dutch speedskater Femke Kok celebrated her gold medal with hundreds of fans at Team Netherlands House in Milan on Sunday evening.
Kok won the gold medal in the 500m race. She beat defending champion Erin Jackson head-to-head in the final heat Sunday and relegated 1,000 winner to Jutta Leerdam to the silver.
Leerdam did not appear on the Team Netherland House stage.
Kok powered through the final turn and easily finished in 36.49 seconds — a whopping 0.66 ahead of teammate Leerdam, who defeated her in the 1,000 on Monday. Miho Takagi of Japan was third in 37.27 for her ninth career Olympic medal.
