*Update JANUARY 2025, the Silverstreet Thunderbolt 1003 was moved to the county's storage, apparently the reinstallation project fell through. Unfortunately, the county has currently no plans for the Silverstreet Thunderbolt to be reinstalled.
Previous update from 2024: The Silverstreet 1003 had went through refurbishment process, it was just finished. But unfortunately, this siren still hasn't been reinstalled and there is currently no estimated date for this siren to be reinstalled. It was originally anticipated to be reinstalled back spring 2024.
Previous update from 2023: This siren was removed and was taken to the repair shop for repairs to the siren. The chopper motor is dead. County plans to reinstall this siren by spring 2024. I repeat, this siren will be reinstalled next year.
Recorded on Saturday, December 22, 2018. This is a weekly fire/tornado siren test of the Newberry County, SC fire/tornado siren system. This siren was tested every Saturday at 12:00 P.M. (now tested at the last Saturday of every month at noon). I went back to this siren because "Tbolt 1003" recently recorded this siren with the siren problem and I wanted to get my own video with this. Newberry County Emergency Services is already aware of this siren's problem and this siren will be fixed, but this siren may have been fixed by now. It's not the first time one of the solenoid boxes had failed. I was also told by the EMS officer "if the controls ever fail on this siren, the county will not fix it, and this siren will be replaced with a new siren. It's too much work for the county to rewire the controls". I also got new information about why Newberry County weekly tests their siren system for 3 minutes. It's because running the sirens for 3 minutes gives them time to remove any wasp nests/bird nests/other debris off the sirens that may have recently been built on or on the bottom of the sirens. This siren is located in Silverstreet, SC at Silverstreet Volunteer Fire Department.
