My name is Xanthe.
One of the biggest factors with how colours appear on video, photos etc is lighting. I am working with lighting on a budget and I wear glasses.
I film from a very dark room, with very little space to film from (so sit the camera on my desk). It's frustrating how much my lighting varies with just the hint of natural lighting which comes indirectly through the window.
Today was a very grey, rainy day, so mostly reliant on artificial lighting.
My artificial lighting includes:
a small LED desk lamp in neutral (directed to the back wall)
a wall LED light, which has high glare, so I reflect it back to the wall with a mirror
a standard desk lamp (tried two different bulbs), reflected to the wall
a small ring light, with warm, neutral and cool options, used as a fill light (to add some light to a dark corner).
I don't use the other LED wall light when recording as it creates glare. I try not to have too much window light showing, as it can also create glare.
My preference is the ring light on neutral then warm, not cool. I preferred the second light bulb, which to me appears more red-leaning rather than green leaning. I don't use the ring light up close, as I usually wear glasses.
I think the desk light bulb is the main factor for my appearing too yellow in some videos. So will try the other bulb.
If I don't have enough light, colours can appear greyish (as my camera doesn't cope will with dim lighting).
I find the desk lamp easier on my eyes for ambient light when I am using my laptop.
When I am painting, I add as much light as I can to the painting, including an LED clip on easel light, which also has warm, neutral, cool.
