No damage to these leeks from Allium leaf miner. Whereas one year ago, they were almost destroyed by that the maggots of those flies.
I was fearing the worst this year so I grew an early variety Jolant, which can grow large before the flies would arrive in mid-autumn. I don't like using covers if I'm not sure they will be beneficial, and all of this has paid off.
My garden is no dig so these leeks have needed little weeding. They were preceded by potatoes which we pulled in July. Leeks sown 9th April in my module trays, potted to 7cm pots late May.
I don't understand why the leaf miner is absent, and I have heard others say the same. A time to rejoice!
