Step Back in Time at Cap’s Place – Lighthouse Point’s Most Historic Restaurant!
Recognized as a national landmark Cap’s Place Island Restaurant is Broward County, Florida’s oldest restaurant. With roots as a 1920’s casino and rum-running speakeasy, it sits on an island off Lighthouse Point and can only be reached by a boat. Cap’s Place has retained its unique character, offering guests a rare blend of historic ambiance and top-quality seafood cuisine.
Once inside, enjoy dishes like fresh stone crabs, locally caught fish, and lobster while surrounded by the rustic, preserved décor that captures the spirit of Old Florida. Ideal for special occasions, romantic dinners, or anyone looking to step back in time, Cap’s Place delivers a memorable evening filled with history, charm, and mouth-watering cuisine.
Cap’s Place was owned by Captain Theodore Knight, one of the earliest settlers in the Lighthouse Point area and a colorful character in Broward County’s history.
Among some of the notables who have enjoyed Cap’s creative cuisine are Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, the Vanderbilts, the Rockefellers, Al Capone, Meyer Lansky, Casey Stengel, George Harrison, Errol Flynn, the Temptations, Susan Hayward, Gloria Swanson, Mariah Carey, “Norm” from TV’s Cheers and Joe Namath. Cap’s has hosted the famous and infamous for decades.
The winner of numerous dining awards, in 1990 Cap’s Place was listed as a historical site on the National Register of Historic Places. Enjoy South Florida like it used to be!
