India's groundbreaking Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, the nation's first semi-high-speed overnight train, now connects Kamakhya (Guwahati) to Howrah in just 14 hours—shaving nearly 2.5–3 hours off traditional services like the Saraighat Express.
Flagged off by PM Narendra Modi on January 17, 2026, this sleek orange-grey trainset (Train No. 27576) departs Kamakhya at 6:15 PM, arriving Howrah at 8:15 AM the next day. It features comfortable AC sleeper berths (3-tier, 2-tier, First AC), automatic plug doors, advanced suspension for a jerk-free ride, bio-vacuum toilets, onboard infotainment, Kavach safety system, and included catering with authentic Assamese cuisine.
Covering ~972 km with 13 scenic stops—including New Jalpaiguri, Malda Town, and New Bongaigaon—it promises premium, safe, and affordable long-distance travel, boosting tourism, pilgrimage, and connectivity between Northeast and Eastern India.
