In this project-based lesson, we will capitalize on the effects produced by combining a streaky sheet glass style called Petrified Wood with Robin’s Egg Blue, a copper-bearing opalescent. Because the clear areas of Petrified Wood are made of a glass called Red Reactive Clear, those areas will develop deep red hues wherever they make contact with select copper-bearing glass.
By demonstrating the fusing, coldworking, and slumping of a simple bowl, this lesson illustrates the sumptuous earth and jewel tones produced when these reactive glasses come together.
