🌟 Hadith 7 – On Ostentation and Association in Worship
Abū Hurayrah (ra) reported:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that Allah said:
“Of all those to whom association is attributed, I am the furthest removed from that which is associated with Me. Anyone who performs an action in which he associates with Me anything other than Myself, I abandon him and that which he associates.”
— Hadith Qudsi (narrated in Muslim)
💡 Key Lessons
Definition of Ostentation (Riyāʾ):
When an act of worship is done for Allah + to impress people.
Example: Giving charity but also hoping for praise.
Allah Rejects Mixed Intentions:
If Allah is not the sole focus of the action, He abandons it.
The deed is wasted if done for other than Allah.
Practical Self-Check:
Ask yourself: If no one notices me, would I still do it?
If the answer is yes, the intention is sound.
If the answer is no, the intention is corrupt.
Unintended Consequences:
Recognition or praise that happens after is not a problem—
as long as it wasn’t the goal of the action.
